A cohort six of designers, with a focus on BIPOC, will get access to direct training and campaign strategy support from Kickstarter to launch or market a Kickstarter Campaign during the Detroit Month of Design. Winners of this year's cohort are:
TruckTruck by Synecdoche
Synecdoche is looking to convert an old food truck into a mobile design lab. Using Synecdoche's extra tools and resources like 3D printers, hand tools, and art supplies , TruckTruck will provide pop-up programming with community youth. In the gaps between programming, TruckTruck serve as a pop-up retail truck for local entrepreneurs. Follow Synecdoche here.
The Word's First Eyeglass Frames Made With Coffee Waste! by Loopy Products
Coffee grows in a fruit, but all we want is the tiny bean inside to make coffee. That leave 30-50% of the fruit behind, with no other use. That waste, however, can be upcycled into a sustainable material used to make products like eyeglass frames by Loopy Products. Follow LoopyProducts here.
Black Architects in Detroit by Noir Design Parti

AKOMA: An Artists Cooperative for Women by Mandisa Smith

Refuge for Nations Sewing Center Detroit Expansion
Refuge for Nations (RfN) desires to create a sense of community, stability, creativity and enterprise for immigrant and refugee women through helping them to earn a living by sewing for designers at RfN Sewing Centers. RfNs goal is also to create an accessible fashion manufacturing hub for up and coming and existing designers in Detroit in which we can assist designers with small to medium run production. Each winner will be creating an installation to mark a unique moment within sneaker culture locally and globally. Installations will be displayed inside a Detroit commercial space during Detroit Month of Design this September.
