Design Core is excited to partner with Gardner-White on all new furniture competition during Detroit Month of Design. Garnder-White has selected three designers to create temporary furniture pieces that will be publicly displayed. The installations will debut during Detroit Month of Design at two Detroit locations and one Gardner-White store. Pieces will be on display from Sept. 1st - 30th.
The winning designers include:
Laura Foxman of We are all Collage will be presenting a piece of furniture in collaboration with local fabricators. WAAC collaborates across design disciplines to realize a wide range of projects from site-specific furniture to architecture and design research. On view at the Congregation Detroit, 9321 Rosa Parks Blvd, Detroit, MI 48206
Elizabeth Salonen of Mottoform will be presenting a table, planter and rug that bring attention to the environmental impact and influence that product designers have through their design decisions and material choices. This installation would combine perceived high-end and low-end materials to create an upscale version of a sustainable look. On view at the Gardner White Canton Store
Erika Baker of Urban Alterscapes will be debuting ‘Slung” which merges the classicism of the Barcelona chair with the vibrant energy of Detroit’s resurgence. The ergonomic form follows the timeless proportions of the van der Rohe design, and the use of nylon straps, tactile fasteners and metal to create a comfortable and accessible lounge chair.
