Oudolf Garden Detroit’s Grounds Crew is an all-volunteer group dedicated to placing and maintaining a Piet Oudolf designed garden on Belle Isle in Detroit. Oudolf is the internationally renowned Dutch garden designer and horticulturist who created the High Line in New York City and the Lurie Garden in Chicago. His public gardens transform people and places.
Enjoy the plant and garden artistry of world-renowned designer Piet Oudolf’s newest public garden on Detroit’s Belle Isle. Join us during Detroit Design Month for a weekly guided garden tour. Inspired by the energy of Detroit, Piet Oudolf designed the garden to be both artistic and ecological. He chose perennials, grasses, shrubs, and trees for their hardiness, durability, and ever-changing textures and colors for enjoyment in all four seasons.
The Friday tours on September 3, 17 and 24 are 4-7 pm. The Saturday tour on September 11 is 8:30 to 10:30 am. We will have guides availalbe to walk people through the garden and also assist in using their smart phones for a self-paced tour.
