Architectural Salvage Warehouse of Detroit, a Detroit-based nonprofit dedicated to the salvaging of Detroit building and construction resources, is hosting a Big Block Party, a community event with live music, local food, and an art auction. The event is intended to serve as the launching point for the inaugural Design IT (Inspiration Transformation) competition, where participating artists will auction their work as part of the Detroit Month of Design. The artwork is created primarily from salvaged materials, including materials from the warehouse.
Remaining true to Detroit artists’ tradition of incorporating “found objects” into their work, ASWD hopes to uplift local artists through this auction. Attendees of the Big Block Party as well as anyone interested in participating in the auction via our online auction platform will have a chance to bid on and take home a piece of original artwork that speaks to the very essence of the city and its history.
In addition to the art auction, the event will feature a silent auction from Detroit-based brands like Better Made, Pietryzk Pierogi, INK Detroit and more. With their ticket guests will also enjoy local Detroit food, drinks and live entertainment. This event will truly feel like a community affair, which closely aligns with ASWD’s mission to improve Detroit one neighborhood block at a time. If guests can not come in person, you can sign up on the QR code here for just the virtual silent auction!
