Leah Ely is a textile designer and doodler based in Detroit, MI. Her work focus is on human connection, combining elements of design and abstraction and creating a world within her work for each viewer to step into.
She is most inspired by the hidden and often intimate places we find outdoors. In fact, the roots of her creation begin outside as she wanders through untouched worlds of nature.
She challenges the use of found and natural objects as a tool for printing, painting, dyeing and display. She aims to replicate the patterns and emotion experienced in nature as a chance to rejoice and reconnect our humanity back into the roots that created us.
Her practice takes place in her small apartment in Detroit where she spends most of her time doodling large scale and hand-printing patterns onto textiles.

This Block Printing Workshop will instruct on the technique of block printing and bringing handprinted material onto products such as sneakers.
We will focus on the process of pattern planning, drawing, carving and printing through traditional practice. The hands-on method of block printing creates patterns, stamps and textile designs that will be used in a variety of fashion pieces.
Each participant is able to translate their story and experiences through block printing and can take their designs as a further form of self expression.
