Cranbrook Academy of Art is the nation’s top-ranked school devoted exclusively to graduate education in art, architecture, craft, and design.
The Cranbrook 2D Design Department will open its doors for Open Studios during the Detroit Month of Design, inviting small groups of interested visitors to attend rare guided tours through the active studios of current graduate students and Designer-in-Residence Elliott Earls.
The 2D Design department is the graduate graphic design department of Cranbrook Academy of Art. Led by Designer-in-Residence Elliott Earls, the 2D Design department actively explores the relationship between writing, criticism, and production with an emphasis on the experimental. The results of these investigations often exist at the threshold between design and art, and are present in the studio practices of the department’s first and second-year students. Interested visitors would get a rare behind-the-scenes look into the day-to-day life in a singular program amongst the American landscape of graduate studies in graphic design.
