AIGA Detroit has been a chapter of the national AIGA organization since 1986. The Detroit chapter has hundreds of members with a network reaching out to the entire Michigan creative community including: designers, educators, art directors, web developers, printers, illustrators, photographers, artists and students. Through events, programs and initiatives, AIGA Detroit is demonstrating the value of design to businesses and the power of design in our culture. The Detroit Chapter is committed to the continued growth of an already vibrant, creative community and a rich design history here in Michigan.
Design For Good Detroit is a volunteer design hackathon, where teams of experienced designers will work together with local non-profits to develop new branding, marketing, and creative solutions to address local social issues. Designers and non-profits will convene on September 1st to kick off a month-long project addressing one or more challenges that each organization might be facing. Teams of five designers will then spend the next month brainstorming, ideating, developing, and designing. DFG Detroit will be providing updates and an insight into the process as it’s happening on social media throughout the month. At the end of the month on the 25th, designers, nonprofits and the public will reconvene for an exhibition of the work and the design process. This public gathering will be both a celebration of the incredible work the designers have produced, but also as a way to support the non-profits making Detroit a great place to live.
