Design Core Detroit champions design-driven businesses and their role in strengthening Detroit’s economy. It offers services to strengthen, grow and attract design businesses, increases market demand for design services, and tells Detroit’s design story locally and globally.
Design Core is a department within College for Creative Studies. Design Core serves design-driven industries that specialize in design or utilize design as a central discipline of their business strategy. As the steward of Detroit’s UNESCO City of Design designation, Design Core serves as the convener and backbone organization for the Detroit City of Design initiative.
Design Jams shift product innovation, which typically happens behind a few closed doors, to a collective and open space – one where all types of voices influence the process. This event will bring together interdisciplinary teams to: Inspire innovation within the region’s manufacturing sector; Catalyze collaborations between designers and manufacturers in the Metro Detroit region; Create solutions for recreational athletes with limb loss; Initiate relationships between designers, manufacturers, makers, service providers, and customers.
Up to six multi-disciplinary teams have been selected to participate in this 2 part hands-on design and prototyping challenge. Teams were curated to ensure representation from student, faculty and professional designers, manufacturers, makers and entrepreneurs, business coaches, and end users from the limb loss community.
Applications to join a team are now closed. Outcomes will be shared via Design Core communications after the event. For more information follow us at @designcoredet and subscribe to our newsletter here.
