Detroit Design 139’s 2019 exhibition, INCLUSIVE FUTURES, proposes that all Detroiters (designers and non-designers alike) can prioritize the importance of inclusive processes and outcomes for all future projects within Detroit’s 139 square miles. Detroit has the opportunity to employ inclusive discourse to create a more equitable, sustainable, and resilient future for our city and those that live, work, and play within it.
As the nation’s only UNESCO City of Design, the exhibition will showcase Detroit’s leadership in inclusive design through curated projects, proposals, and public discourse. Prioritizing diverse experiences, accessible opportunities, and collaborative relationships, Detroit will show how inclusive design develops housing, economies, public spaces, neighborhoods, and city systems that work for everyone.
Thursday Sept 5th: Public Opening Event from 7 to 9pm
The exhibition will open on Sept. 5 and run through September 30, 2019. INCLUSIVE FUTURES will be present in 4 locations throughout the city – coordinating with City of Detroit’s Design Centers in a Box. Each location will display inclusive design projects, host events, and facilitate discussions in order to create multi-generational, inclusive design solutions.
