An exhibition of objects produced by College for Creative Studies furniture students during COVID-19
Along with the hardship of living under threat of COVID for themselves and loved ones, financial duress, and psychological toll of isolation, students across disciplines at the College for Creative Studies were tasked to carry on making in response to our new reality. Without access to studio space, tools, materials, and direct input from peers and faculty, students instead had to resort to what was available in their kitchens, bedrooms, and crawl spaces. Suddenly the old mattress in the basement and a tube of toothpaste had to have new potential. While severe, these constraints forced a reimagining of the ‘correct’ way to build and a redefining of what material can be.
