Abertay University and Dundee Unesco City of Design

Based in Dundee, Scotland, Abertay University is the top modern university in Scotland, according to the Guardian University Guide 2019.

Abertay was the first university in the world to offer degrees in computer games and also in ethical hacking, where we uniquely train students in offensive cybersecurity. Abertay leads the way in Scotland on widening access to higher education and was the first university in the country to introduce reduced access thresholds for disadvantaged applicants.

Home to world-leading research, Abertay has expertise across a host of topics collated under four themes – Creative Industries, Security, Society and Environment. The University is also a founding partner of the award-winning V&A Dundee Museum of Design, which was designed by the internationally-acclaimed Kengo Kuma.

Videogames from Abertay University, Dundee City of Design

Dundee City of Design is a thriving hub of videogame designers and studios. At the heart of this is Abertay University who launched the world’s first ever videogames design degree back in 1997. Rated by the Princeton Review as number one in Europe for undergraduate level games courses Abertay graduates have gone on to work for leading computer games companies – including Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Rockstar North and 4J Studios.

As part of Detroit Design Month Abertay University, Dundee are very excited to showcase some incredible student projects, including ‘Kinoko’ where you play as a nature spirit tasked with clearing away winter and bring the forest into spring. Kinoko is a calming experience with focus on exploration and transforming the environment in a positive way.

Come along to play and hear about the incredible work that our students are making… and expect the unexpected!

Open 12pm – 4pm on September 23rd and 24th 2019.
